June, Remains of the Day (Kyleakin, Isle of Skye)
oil on canvas
9x12in, 2009, Private Collection

This painting  was rendered on the Isle of Skye, literally under the Skye bridge, facing
Gavin Maxwell's last home before his death, from cancer, too young. He was a naturalist and wonderful author, and is best known for his trilogy, 'Ring of Bright Water, which involves otters....

Last night , by accident as often happens in blogland, I found an amazing journal by Melanie McDonald. She is an artist from Cornwall, UK, who, along with her 'Scottish Husband' as she refers to him, and daughter Skye (yes, named after the Isle) now live in Brittney, France. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer, and she openly shares her feelings and journey as they go through this life change.
As well, you can view her remarkable paintings. She has rendered a series of Scotland paintings, which I respond to as it is close to my heart. Take a look, but be prepared to spend some time over a cup of tea or glass of wine..      http://gauguinsloft.blogspot.com/
