Yesterday the encaustic workshop went really well and my students created some spectacular work! They inspired me so much that  after the workshop I just –kept on working!

Continuing in my seasonal garden series, this year’s works are  titled ‘Garden Corner’. Flowers, seed packets and seeds are now preserved forever, planted and embroidered in rich layers of natural beeswax. I also incorporated fresh dandelions (really like the abstract qualities of their leaves), forsythia  and wild violets. Because this  medium cuts off all oxygen, the colour of the flowers remain intact.

I haven't posted new work in awhile. My mother has had a health setback but is on the mend, which means  that I will be painting again soon:-)

In organizing my portfolio I found this little painting--rendered ten years ago!!!! It was the first in my escarpment fruit tree series, and close to my heart as I see it every day in every season on our back  hill. I thought I'd post it. It is an apple tree and still bears fruit. Kath I hope you are enjoying it>>>

The drive through the country to our gallery is beautiful any time of the year, but today I was absolutely astounded at the amount of orchards in bloom! White billows  spinning and dancing, rejoicing in all things new.

Plein Air Warning

This early spring's sunshine, balmy air and wild green grasses come at a steep price for those of us who insist on painting them on location...

The dreaded tick is alive and well in my neck of the woods, so to speak. I refuse to go into detail regarding these disgusting and sometimes debilitating (Lyme disease) parasites, but just be careful--check your clothes, your paints and your pets!!!!

What beautiful weather we are having! The tree posted below is along a pathway behind my home on the Niagara Escarpment and I pass it on daily hikes . Every spring I paint this little tree--and every year the paintings become larger as the tree  grows. (not rendered the same scale as the actual tree.. mind you I find that idea inspiring!) I am hoping it will bloom again this season. Last year we had a horrible hail storm ...there are a few buds and I am keeping my fingers crossed...

Who doesn't love forsythia?..even the name! Every spring I paint it in homage to the promise of colour and renewal for the upcoming months. The painting below was rendered last year...the bush is brimming with buds for this year's painting..any day now:-)
