This painting is representative of a body of work that is ongoing- exploring our connection with the seasons of the land and the seasons of our lives. Listed below is a simple but to me so deeply true poem - no matter the denomination or what beliefs one has I think it says it all

July, A Time to Every Purpose Under the Sun
oil on canvas
24x48in, 2009
SOLD

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the sun:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

  1. 'a time for every purpose under heaven' ... the painting is stunning Jan, ... in its 'apparent' simplicity / but very apparent complexity and abundance of 'tamed chaotic' colour ! (story of my life , controlled chaos !) ... I must say, after the 'hollyhocks' this is #2 on my 'most favs' list of your works that I have seen ... still luvin' June & Joan too though !

    I have no doubt it is 'enhancing some ones' life' !!!

  4. Thank you for sharing this poem and this gorgeous painting. Looking at this painting, I find myself thinking of the wonderful soil and protected land of the Niagara region, which is now lost beneath urban sprawl. Your paintings are full of the richness the land provides. I wish we could all be more connected.
    Been suffering from a terrible summer cold ever since I got back from the show, so I can barely do a few small paintings now and then. Hoping to get back to normal soon!
