I worked on this painting last July and put it away with the intention of resuming later in the month. Something about it was really bothering me but I was too close. Today after returning from a walk in the field and seeing all of the thistles in bloom (with yellow finches feeding on them) I thought of the painting. I took it out and after applying and wiping out several times, I just signed it.

  2. Good move to sign it! Maybe you will paint the scene again with them mindset of your walk yesterday and the sound of the finches nearby?

I always enjoy your dynamic brushwork and generous application of paint!

  3. I love this time of year when the yellow birds can be seen feasting on the thistles. This painting has that warm mid summer feel with a glorious sky. Love that pinky red showing up throughout the painting.

  4. Thanks Pam--I think it is the angle that was bothering me--as well as the texture of all those wee dangerous thorns!

Good to hear from you Katherine--I have so enjoyed reading your journey and glimpsing your sketchbook--thanks for sharing such personal perspectives!

And Catherine I'm glad the summer feel came through, butso sorry that you have been ill..prob all the pre-show stress took it's toll--hope you feel better asap.
